Metroid: Dread is a phenomenal game, receiving almost universal praise and highlighting a poorly served demographic group in the Nintendo fans base. It would be really a shame if you worked on something magisterial, only to see the credits rolling with your unnoticed efforts, right? Such situations are not unknown in the game development industry, and unfortunately, Metroid: Dread might be the last case.
Well, you can simply listen to the team yourself on it. Nintendo worked on Metroid s development: Dread in collaboration with Mercurysteam, a studio based in Madrid. And following a post on the Vandal Hispanophone Games site, some ... details have emerged.
I like to congratulate the beginning of the metroids team sincerely for leaving an exceptional game, wrote the former 3D artist of Mercurysteam, Roberto Mejías. I m not surprised at the game quality because the amount of talent in this team was at its height. I know it first hand because, although not included in the game credits, I was part of this team for eight months.
Mejías was not employed by Mercurysteam at the time of the game, even if he was still working and clearly kept the studio in high esteem.
I recognized a number of strengths and environments I worked on, said Mejías. My job is there.
His reports are not the only - Tania Peñaranda Hernández, who did the animation work of characters, made his own comments. It saddens me to see that I am not reflected in the credits for this work that I did. It was difficult for me to see that they thought it should be like that when I keep seeing a lot of animations that I made in every gameplay.
Due to the way things work (contracts are sometimes great), developers who leave an early project are not always credited. This is sometimes used as a way to keep people in a development team, even if they prefer not to be there. And given the importance of some video game titles, it is not surprising that some choose to stay in toxic environments. In addition, credit work really so difficult? Metroid: Dread is an excellent game, maybe even a highlight of the outputs of 2021. It would be the same to see some people excluded from the credits of the game due to bureaucratic interference.
